Instrument Exchange
Never got around to learning to play the banjo or guitar that is currently sitting untouched in the back of a closet? Are you in the market for something different? If so, bring along your used instruments and some cash to buy, sell, or trade at our secure instrument exchange and flea market. This is a wonderful opportunity to sell an instrument you no longer need or find a new one. Visit the instrument exchange page for details.
Vendors
Several vendors will be present to sell instruments, strings, music, and accessories. See the vendors page for more details.
Contra Dances with Open Bands
Community Square and Round dances have been part of our regional tradition for hundreds of years. Today, a new generation of callers & dancers are discovering contradancing, which has been a tradition in New England for 300 years. HOTAfest will feature dance callers & musicians who can connect to the past, and define the future of this rich tradition. Can you count to eight and walk in time to music? If so, check out the contradances after both evening concerts.
Concerts
HOTA staff members will perform on Friday evening. Concert admission is included in the fee for festival attendees who paid for the entire weekend. The general public may purchase tickets at the door for $10 which covers all evening activities. For a list of performers for each concert, visit the concerts page.
Open Jam Area
Saturday will feature an all-day open jam in the tent outside the Commons (weather permitting), which is central to all workshop, vendor, and concert locations.
There's nothing like a jam session for learning new tunes and sharing the joy of making music. Each workshop time slot offers a staff-led jam session, and there will also be a variety of jams after the Friday and Saturday evening concerts.
The jam tent will offer a wide variety of musical styles, including Irish, old time, folk, bluegrass, dulcimer, contra dance fiddle tune jams, and more. For more information go here.
Workshops
Saturday offers an "intensive" Workshop schedule. Workshops are $50 for all, or $15 each if attended individually. For detailed workshop descriptions, visit the Workshops page.
Later on Saturday afternoon the festival will break up into 3 or 4 "Tracks" to allow everyone to participate in the activities they came for.
- AFTERNOON ACTIVITIES:
- DANCING & PLAYING FOR DANCERS @ the Dance Stage
- CONCERTS Showcase Concerts will feature some wonderful local talent
- SINGING in the "Rehearsal" Room will go on all afternoon
- JAMMING in the jam tents runs all day, but heats up in the afternoon.
“I’ve never been able to play music in a group before, now I can.” P.W.
